Survey: 70% Support Renewable Energy Deployment in Japan

Climate Integrate conducted an opinion survey on renewable energy* in Japan from September 4 to 7, 2025. The survey indicates that 70% of respondents see the need to expand the deployment of renewable energy. We hope that this survey will serve as a useful reference for policy discussions and local efforts to promote renewable energy.

* Renewable energy is energy produced by sources including solar, wind, or hydropower, and it can be used to generate electricity, heat, etc. The five types of renewable energy covered by our survey include solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and biomass.

Survey Results – Highlights

  • 84% of respondents view climate change as a serious issue, and this concern is widely shared.
  • Over 90% are aware of renewable energy.
  • 70% have a positive perception of renewable energy.
  • 70% recognize the need to expand the deployment of renewable energy, while only 10% see no need for expansion.
  • By power generation method, about 60% support renewable energy, while less than 40% support thermal (fossil fuel) and nuclear power generation.

Survey Results

1. Perceptions of climate change – severity

A full 84% of respondents view climate change as a critical issue, and this concern is widely shared.
