Researcher: Power Sector Policy and Scenario Analysis

  • Major responsibilities
    • Conduct research and analysis on policies and measures related to Japan’s electric power sector, and electricity-related statistics and scenarios 
      • Conduct analysis of policies and measures related to electricity generation (fossil fuel-fired, renewable, and nuclear) 
      • Conduct analysis of research by governments, companies, Japanese and overseas research organizations, think tanks, and experts
      • Organize and synthesize key policy issues, challenges, and outlooks related to power sector measures and policies 
      • Prepare written reports and briefing materials 
      • Participate in meetings, conferences, and related events, and network with stakeholders
      • Plan and manage events
      • Other duties as required, including administrative support 
  • Required Skills
    • Minimum two years of experience in research and analysis related to Japan’s electric power sector (measures, policies, statistics, and scenarios), or in related work (Expertise and practical experience in renewable energy policies and measures are especially desirable.) 
    • Ability to conduct research from an ambitious, flexible, and independent perspective, based on existing research and analysis, examining how to achieve decarbonization 
    • Communication skills to dialogue/discuss/collaborate/cooperate effectively with Japanese and overseas research organizations, think tanks, experts, and stakeholders
    • Ability to write reports and briefings (in Japanese and English), create PowerPoint presentations, and make presentations 
    • Ability to work effectively in both Japanese and English, including information gathering, writing, discussions, and presentations (Please provide evidence of your past experience and proficiency in your non-native language.)  
    • Computer/app/software skills to perform your duties effectively

Hiring

Immediate. Start date subject to discussion.

Benefits*

Work location: Remote work, in principle. Any work location is generally acceptable (residency in Japan preferred).

Position details: Full time (can discuss flexible work conditions, including part time)

Term: 1 year (includes 3-month probation), contract renewal possible

Salary: In accordance with our organization’s pay scale regulations (consideration given to candidate’s experience)

Social security: Employment Insurance, Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance, health insurance, employee’s pension and insurance coverage)

Holidays: In accordance with our regulations (we have various leave programs, including annual paid holiday)

Days off: Two days per week, national holidays, plus New Year, summer, winter holidays

Other: We have programs to support health maintenance, training/capacity development, childcare, nursing care
